All about Doug Sapp...

What's there to say about me? I'm an Electrical and Computer Engineer here at the University of Missouri Columbia. I'm a Senior now graduating next May (1998). Before I came to the wonderful Mizzou I went to Pattonville High School. Perhaps you've heard of it? I'm from St. Louis. Bridgeton to be exact. I always say I'm from St. Louis. because if I say I'm from Bridgeton people ask me, "Well, where's Bridgeton?", so I just tell people that I'm from St. Louis. to avoid the confusion. Bridgeton is a nice quiet city of 17,779 people. Since then we've moved out to the spacious city of St. Charles. It's more roomy and I can't touch the ceilings anymore. (And I'm 6'2")

How's the home life you ask? Besides the obvious two wonderful parents I have a younger brother Greg who is also at MU, a younger sister Julie who isn't at MU just yet and one very cool dog Molly. She's one of those smart dogs that can do all the really cool tricks. She's been in the play "Hello Dolly" where she played the part of the dog. Well, what did you expect?

What do I do at ol' MU? Several things actually. I'm an officer in HKN, (eta kappa nu - the electrical engineering fraternity) Basically we have a lot of fun all the time. Our meetings take place every other week at the Heidelberg with plenty o' beer. I'm in IEEE - another electrical engineering group and helped out a bit in the Sun Tiger. (Hey Rolla - we beat you!) I'm the governor of Stewart House in Wolpers - (my residence hall). I run the meetings, order the pizza and attend every function. It's really quite fun and I couldn't ask for a better group of guys. This page you're reading right now is housed on the server which I am proud to be on the Board of Directors. (www.mu.org) What do you get when you have oodles of talent running a site? A dang fine one. I've also helped out on www.students.missouri.edu. (another dang fine site) I won Best of the Web at Mizzou which I think is pretty cool. I'm an avid MU fan and make it to all the Tiger Basketball games I can.

So now your thinking, "What's the deal with Doug 'The Engineer' Sapp"? Well, here's the lo down. Guess what? I'm an Engineer. I can always be found inventing things or coming up with new ideas. What can I say? I'm creative. I'm a natural hacker. (cracker too) If you want me to crack your password let me know and I'll take a shot at it as long as you sign a written contract waiving your privacy rights and promise not to set me up. If you haven't visited my door, yes my door, you should. My door usually contains the latest news on the America's Cup and of course, wacky pictures of me. Right now I have a picture of me and my old roommate posing in the Dumb & Dumber movie poster.

So what do I like? Well, as an Engineer I like to get away from Physics and Thermodynamics and program in various languages. Pascal, Perl, the hated REXX. I'm working on C++ and my favorite language is Quick Basic. Yeah, I know it sounds corny, but I have been using QB for so many years that I just love it, and it's the only compiler that I own. If I had a C compiler I would be using C right now. I've written some pretty cool programs that would top anything a CS major has written. I also like to water ski. Slalom to be exact. I have a Kidder Redline Supreme ski. It's a good ski, but I ski on the Lake of the Ozarks and it is usually too rough to do the fancy stuff. I just ski for recreation. I also like to roller blade. If you don't own roller blades yet go out there an buy some right now! I have the Roller Blade AstroBlade. It's a good starters skate. Unfortunately, I need new wheels and that's going to cost me $40 and I only paid $100 for them. You don't want anything fancy if you are skating here at Mizzou. The roads in Columbia are poor. They're horrible. It's that pebbly stuff they glue together with epoxy and call it road. It's really bad. It's right up there with gravel. Oh, and I also like Fruitopia in just about any flavor. My definite favorite would be pink lemonade followed by strawberry. Try it! It'good stuff!/B>

So what don't I like? Not much really. I'm a good natured person and like everyone and everything. Yeah right. For starters I don't like English. No, not the people, the language. It's just so poorly constructed. It wasn't made by an Engineer. The English system of measurements also doesn't go over well with me. (Especially in Thermodynamics. Too many conversion factors) I also don't care for the Ad sheet. Well, not really. Sometimes they get just a little to pushy. I hate it when I end up with 17 Ad Sheets in one day. I just can't say no to them. Mizzou Campus Computing isn't on my good side right now either. (2/21/97 for screwing with my account) Lousy home pages don't thrill me either. I figure if you're going to be on the 'net put a little effort into it please! I'm just asking for it to be tolerable. I'm neither Republican or Democrat. What does that leave you with then? Independents. Well, I should probably say that I always vote for the best person for the job. I can't stand the Mac Classic and other various Macs. This excludes the Power Mac. I just can't stand how they work. They can't run any advanced software. (This boils down to they can't play DOOM) And the operating system is just to cheesy for me. It's always asking you to insert your disk that you aren't even using. I better quit before I start ticking people off.

What are my goals? To start I'm looking for a job next summer - maybe a co-op or internship dealing with computers. If you are hiring leave me a note. I'm planning to either get an internship or stay with Kelly Temporary Services. That's one of the best jobs I have had despite the fact they messed up my last assignment that was supposed to last the entire summer but then ended early and left me unemployed for two weeks. But now they have landed me a job at GTE where as of now it promises to be one of the best places to work. I have also worked for Unigroup, McDonnell Douglas, Hunter Engineering, HSCA, Coca-Cola and GE Capitol doing computer related tasks using Word, Excel and Lotus. I would like to be able to get my degree in 4 years and my MS in Computer Engineering in another 1-2, or maybe an MBA. I'm still thinking about that one. No sense staying around here longer than that. I also want to invent something really useful for the world. I have no ideas yet, but if you have one I'd like to hear it.

That's it. Thanks for having the time to read this mess of writing. Adios...

C. Douglas Sapp
