Why this document?

Basically its to give you some more information about our policies regarding your privacy and information on the booktrade. You might also say we are trying to cover ourselves.

Who actually runs the booktrade?

The Missouri Student Web Alliance, a non-profit corporation registered in the state of Missouri. Our board and membership consists of students attending the University of Missouri-Columbia, along with other friends of the group who help out.

Do you make money off the books sold on the booktrade?

No. The booktrade is a free service to all MU students. The booktrade serves as an electronic bulletin board. We do however might generate support for the booktrade from sponsorships. If you are interested in sponsoring the booktrade please e-mail Stephen Johannes at stephen@mu.org for more information.

Where does your sponsorship money go to?

Basically it pays for the cost of all the equipment associated with the booktrade, advertising, and other costs that we in encounter in doing this project.

What happens to the personal information placed in the booktrade?

Good Question. First off, we don't pass the information on to anyone who wants to buy it off of us. Second your information is only in public view when you post a book to sell, the reasoning is that you probably can't sell the book if people can't contact you :) Third, on the server only the booktrade admins have access to it and may use as test data for a better version of the booktrade. Fourth you may recieve e-mail from us, time from time notifying you of book trade improvements and asking for feedback on how to improve the booktrade.

How Reliable is the information on the booktrade?

We will come back and answer you with How Honest are You?. The information posted is no means guranteed by the good folks at the Missouri Student Web Alliance to be 100% accurate. Mistakes might occurr so we encourage you to check things out before forking over money to anyone. We strongly recommend that you only pay someone for a book they have to sell when physically receiving the book. Don't prepay!

What's a good price to sell my book at?

It's up to you but a rule of thumb to use is 65% of what you paid for it in the first place. This gives generally both the buyer and the seller savings over what most bookstores would have given you.

The above is intended to scare you off from posting. Just instead to let you know to be nice and that its still up to you to physically sell your book to another person. We just try to help in giving you a place let you let everyone know you have a book for sale.
